Our story

Poor Charlotte’s is a romance-forward bookstore serving Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. We specialize in stories of love, family and community—books that uplift and offer joyful escape. At Poor Charlotte’s, we bring readers together who love love, building connection one delightful story at a time.

We stock all genres of romance, and select fiction and nonfiction titles that center themes of community, friendship and family.

Why Poor Charlotte’s Books?

Poor Charlotte’s Books: For all the love stories Charlotte never got to read (but definitely needed).

“Miss Bartlett assumed her favorite role, that of prematurely aged martyr.”

Our store honors Charlotte Bartlett, the socially awkward chaperone in the 1908 novel A Room with a View. She spends the entire story in a constant state of anxiety while secretly dying for a little fun.  We think Charlotte deserves better; in fact, we think we all deserve better.

So at Poor Charlotte’s, we trade propriety for passion. Our shelves are stacked with the happily-ever-afters Charlotte never got - the sweet, the swoony, and even the steamy. At Poor Charlotte’s we celebrate that spirit by creating a place where readers can find joy in great stories time and time again.

“Charlotte alone she was sure of. Charlotte whose exterior concealed so much insight and love.”
